No podemos sino agradecer la coherencia de las instituciones Navarras por su no colaboración con el reciente Campeonato Europeo sub-18 de Sófbol al retirar su apoyo si la Federación de Beisbol y Sófbol mantenía al equipo de Israel entre los contendientes. Israel es estado colonial, que ocupa Palestina ilegalmente y está incurso en un genocidio y sometido a los Tribulanes Internacionales tanto como régimen como sus mandatarios por innumerables crímenes de guerra, de lesa humanidad y de ocupación. El 23 de julio el parlamento de Israel acaba de votar con 73 votos frente a 13 en contra, por la anexión de la totalidad del territorio de Cisjordania ocupada. Los tribunales internacionales y la propia Francesca Albanese, relatora especial para los DDHH en los Territorios Ocupados de Palestina, interpelan a los estados y a todas las instituciones de los mismos para hacer todo lo que esté en su mano para oponerse al genocidio y a la ocupación ilegal.
Por tanto, no se puede permitir que ningún evento, tampoco los deportivos, blanqueen el genocidio, la ocupación y el apartheid. Reiteramos como Yala Nafarroa con Palestina nuestro apoyo y reconocimiento a la postura de Gobierno de Navarra, Ayuntamiento de Pamplona, Ayuntamiento de Burlada y UPNA, instituciones que no han querido colaborar con el hecho de que el equipo de Sófbol de Israel tomase parte de un campeonato en suelo navarro y en sus respectivos municipios. Deploramos que Instituciones aragonesas hayan hecho lo contrario atribuyéndose “salvar el campeonato”. Bastaba con dejar fuera a Israel y en Navarra se hubiese disputado un campeonato digno y completo.
El Gobierno de Navarra trasladó ya en mayo a la Federación Europea de Béisbol y Sófbol su rechazo a la participación de Israel en un Campeonato en Navarra. Al mismo tiempo, tanto el Ayuntamiento de Burlada (uno de los más de 65 que han aprobado la moción de Yala Nafarroa con Palestina), como el Ayuntamiento de Pamplona, así como la UPNA han ejercido, en total coherencia con sus posicionamientos públicos en defensa de los derechos humanos y del Derecho Internacional, su derecho y su responsabilidad de no colaborar con un evento donde participa Israel de modo oficial, representando a un estado incurso en pleno genocidio en Gaza y escalada de la ocupación y la violencia en toda Palestina. Todas estas instituciones mantenían sus compromisos con el campeonato en apoyo económico, infraestructuras, comunicación, etc siempre que Israel quedase fuera de la competición.
A Pablo Carpio (Presidente de la Real Federación Española de Béisbol y Sófbol) y a la Federación que representa y sus asociados habría que preguntarles si creen que es edificante enrocarse en el lugar común de que el deporte debe estar por encima de todo como si el respeto a los Derechos Humanos, el Derecho Internacional Humanitario y la paz misma no fuesen la condición previa para generar escuelas deportivas y formar a deportistas que puedan disputar competiciones, aquí o en Palestina. Invitar a equipos de Israel o incorporarles en circuitos europeos no es en absoluto un acto inocente o inocuo. Contribuye a normalizar las relaciones con un régimen que está incurso en pleno genocidio y que entre otras cosas ha asesinado y herido a cientos de deportistas, muchos de ellos de élite. Acoger a equipos de Israel en eventos deportivos es normalizar el genocidio que también ha arrasado miles de sueños deportivos. A nadie se le escapa que vestir un uniforme nacional de Israel y potencialmente permitir que suba al podio su bandera o su himno es un atajo innegable para la normalización y banalización de los crímenes del régimen de Israel. Sólo podemos saludar a las instituciones navarras de todas las escalas que asumen su responsabilidad en materia de derechos humanos cerrando las puertas a equipos que representan al Estado de Israel en estos momentos de devastación por hambre, por bombas, maquinaria de demolición y todo tipo de deshumanización hacia el pueblo palestino…
Desde Yala Nafarroa apostamos por que los campos y federaciones deportivas de Palestina recuperen su espacio robado y compitan en paz en su propia tierra y en giras por todo el mundo. Desde aquí nuestro homenaje y recuerdo a los más de 800 deportistas y los más de 30.000 niños asesinados desde el 7 de octubre de 2023 (muchos de ellos promesa del deporte); nuestro recuerdo a los miles de deportistas profesionales y amateur mutilados y desaparecidos; y nuestra denuncia por la destrución total o parcial de al menos 288 instalaciones deportivas.
Una vez más la sociedad y las instituciones Navarras han estado en el lado correcto. Eskerrik asko. Gora Palestina Libre.

The Navarrese institutions acted correctly at the European Under-18 Softball Championship.

We would like to express our gratitude to the institutions of Navarre for their commitment to maintaining their position on the recent European Under-18 Softball Championship. Their decision to withdraw their support if the Baseball and Softball Federation chose to include the Israeli team among the contenders was a courageous stance that deserves recognition. Israel is a colonial state that illegally occupies Palestine and is engaged in genocide. It is subject to International Tribunals, both as a regime and its leaders, for countless war crimes, crimes against humanity, and occupation. On 23 July, the Israeli parliament voted 73 to 13 in favour of annexing the entire occupied West Bank. International courts and Francesca Albanese, Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, are calling on states and all their institutions to do everything in their power to oppose genocide and illegal occupation.
Therefore, no event, including sporting events, should be permitted to whitewash genocide, occupation and apartheid. As Yala Nafarroa with Palestine, we reiterate our support and recognition of the position taken by the Navarrese government, Pamplona City Council, Burlada City Council and the Public University of Navarre (UPNA), institutions that have refused to collaborate with the Israeli softball team competing in a championship on Navarrese soil and in their respective municipalities. We deplore the fact that Aragonese institutions have done the opposite, claiming to have ‘saved the championship’. Leaving Israel out would have sufficed, and Navarre would have hosted a dignified and complete championship.
As early as in May, the Government of Navarre communicated to the European Baseball and Softball Federation its rejection to the participation of Israel in a Navarre-based championship. Concurrently, the City Council of Burlada (one of more than 65 that have approved the Yala Nafarroa with Palestine motion), the City Council of Pamplona, and the UPNA have exercised their right and responsibility not to collaborate with an event in which Israel participates officially. This decision is in full accordance with their public positions in defence of human rights and international law, and represents a stance against an entity engaged in full-scale genocide in Gaza and escalating occupation and violence throughout Palestine. It is evident that all these institutions remained committed to the championship, as evidenced in terms of financial support, infrastructure, communication, etc., provided that the State of Israel was excluded from participation.
Pablo Carpio, President of the Royal Spanish Baseball and Softball Federation, and the Federation itself, along with its associates, should be asked whether they believe it is edifying to cling to the commonplace notion that sport should be above everything else, as if respect for human rights, international humanitarian law and peace itself were not prerequisites for creating sports schools and training athletes who can compete, here or in Palestine. The act of inviting Israeli teams or incorporating them into European circuits cannot be considered as innocent or harmless. This approach contributes to the normalization of relations with a regime that is engaged in full-scale genocide, which has resulted in the killing and injury of hundreds of athletes, including numerous elite competitors. The hosting of Israeli teams at sporting events has been observed to contribute to the normalization of the ongoing genocide, which has also resulted in the destruction of numerous sporting aspirations. It is evident that wearing an Israeli national uniform and potentially permitting the raising of its flag or anthem on the podium constitutes a clear path towards the normalization and trivialization of the transgressions perpetrated by the Israeli regime. It is to be commended that the institutions in Navarre at all levels have assumed responsibility in the area of human rights by closing their doors to teams representing the State of Israel at this time of devastation caused by hunger, bombs, demolition machinery and all kinds of dehumanization of the Palestinian people.
At Yala Nafarroa, we are committed to ensuring that Palestinian sports fields and federations regain their stolen space, so that they can compete in peace on their own land and on tours around the world. We pay tribute to the more than 800 athletes and over 30,000 children who have been killed since 7 October 2023, many of whom were promising sports stars. We also remember the thousands of professional and amateur athletes who have been injured or gone missing, and we denounce the destruction of at least 288 sports facilities, some of which has been total.
